There are many attractions and events throughout the year for residents and visitors.


Major Annual Events
(in chronological order)


a) Australia Day Breakfast (January 26)
Each year from 8am to 10am hundreds of Kyneton residents of all ages celebrate Australia Day at a free community breakfast in the centre of town at the Mechanics Institute Reserve. Service Club members serve residents bacon, sausages and eggs and a cuppa whilst local musicians entertain. Contact person is Kevin Thomas 54227130


b) International Women's Day Dinner (March)
Held in the week of International Women's Day, the Dinner is hosted by the Zonta Club of Kyneton. The event is a very popular attraction for women across the region and always features prominent and thought provoking speakers.

c) Kyneton Easter Air Show (bi-annual)
This popular event is held at the Kyneton Airfield in every second year.

d) Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival (First Week of September)

This 11 day festival starts on the Thursday before the first weekend in September and concludes on the second Sunday in September. Contact person for the Festival is Marg Dearricott 54222282. Website is www.kynetondaffodilarts.org.au

In addition to Kyneton's famous Golden Mile of Daffodils half of the town's gardens feature a wide variety of beautiful daffodils. Open Gardens and flower shows are a major feature of the Festival but a breathtaking variety of activities catering for visitors and families are conducted. These include:

Some regular highlight events of the Festival are:

(i) Kyneton Antique Fair:

This 3 day event (1st Fri evening plus Sat & Sun) held in the Kyneton Town Hall displays and offers for sale a vast assortment of antiques, ranging from militaria, badges and costumes to exquisite jewellery, silverware, china and smaller pieces of furniture. The Fair is conducted by the Friends of the Kyneton Museum.

(ii) Festival of One Act Plays The 3 day Festival

(1st Fri evening plus Sat & Sun) has run continuously for more than 50 years and attracts theatre Companies from across the State. It is conducted in the historic Bluestone Theatre and has a youth section (on Friday night) in addition to the adult competition (Sat &Sun).

(iii) Spring Flower Show:

 Conducted by the Kyneton Horticultural Society - Not only are daffodils featured but also cut flowers, floral art, pot plants and a children's section.


(iv) Paramoor Farm Fayre

Conducted on the farm in the presence of Paramoor's splendid Clydesdale horses. Visitors experience wonderful food, excellent wines, great entertainment, delightful local art, craft and produce stalls on the 1st Sunday in Sept.


(v) Ferret Racing

A novel and popular event that takes place in the Mechanics Reserve in the centre of town on the first Saturday morning of the Festival.



(vi) Fun Run

A fund raiser for the Kyneton Hospital, the event caters for all ages and abilities with both a 5k and 10k section in which participants can run or walk.

(vii) Festival of Flowers

St Paul's Anglican Church has conducted this event for 26 years. The church is decorated with scores of fantastic flower arrangements, each in accord with the theme set for the year.

(viii) Daffodil Old Time Ball

Held on the evening of the 2nd Saturday of September the Ball is one of a handful of genuine Old Time Balls left. Dancers come from across the State to dance, compete for the sashes, and enjoy the great music and the famous supper.

(ix) Grand Parade & Family Street Fair

Held on the 2ndSunday of September these events are the culmination of the festival. A huge crowd of locals and visitors watch the parade and then participate in the magic street activities afterwards.

f) Annual Zonta Fashion Parade and Dinner (October)
Around 200 women attend this popular event hosted by the Zonta Club of Kyneton which is usually on the evening of the 4th Wednesday of October.


g) Kyneton Wine Dinner (October/November)
Over a sumptuous dinner guests sample the wines that were judged at the Kyneton Wine Show during that day. Contact Sandra Aitken 54234225.



h) Kyneton Cup (First Wednesday in November)

Thousands of Kyneton district residents attend this annual celebration on the Wednesday after the Melbourne Cup. Kyneton Cup Day is a Public Holiday in the district.

i) Budburst Festival (October/November)

The Budburst Wine and Food Festival is a Macedon Ranges wide Festival and opens in Kyneton on a Sunday with "Budburst on Piper Street" a wine, food and music fair and continues encompassing renowned wineries, dinners at the great eating places of the district and cellar door tasting. j) Kyneton Agricultural Show

 ( 3rd Friday and Saturday of November)
The Show is held at the Kyneton Showgrounds on Friday evening from 6pm (highlights: Kyneton Show Idol, Fireworks, thrill rides) and during the day on Saturday (highlights: horse & dog shows, thrill rides). k) Malmsbury Village Fayre

Held in the Malmsbury Botanic Gardens on the 3rd Sunday in November the Fayre is a
wonderful opportunity to taste the wines, produce and foods of Malmsbury and surrounds, take in the fantastic scenery, listen to great music and visit the Art Galleries.

Just a 10 minute drive from Kyneton, Hanging Rock is one of the State's most popular and intriguing geological and recreational attractions.

Mineral Springs


Kyneton Mineral Springs is situated about 3 km North of the township on Burton Avenue (the old Calder Highway beyond Piper St). Excellent quality Mineral Water can be pumped free of charge. The Mineral Springs Park itself is an outstanding location for family picnics. It is shaded by magnificent oak trees and includes children's play equipment, a free barbeque, ample seating and tables and good public toilets.
