Kyneton and district has a growing Arts scene with an increasing number of professional artists residing in the district, frequent exhibitions at local galleries and quality musical and theatrical productions being brought to the Kyneton Town Hall.

Inside the Kyneton Town Hall resides the “Kyneton Collection” and at 4 locations about the shopping district street sculptures have been placed.

Gallery Exhibitions

Most of the Galleries conducts several exhibitions each year creating a new exhibition to see somewhere in the district almost weekly.

 

Daffodil Art Prize

As part of the annual Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival a $500 prize is given for the best painting containing daffodils. All entries  are displayed during the Festival and the winning entry is reproduced to promote the following year’s Festival.  Pictured is 2007 Daffodil Art Prize Winner ‘Narcissus – a Kyneton Celebration’ by Esther Rose.

 

Kyneton Art & Craft Show

This exhibition of the work of the members of the Kyneton Art Group is held in the Town Hall as part of the Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon on the second weekend in September.

 

Rotary Youth Art Awards

 Young local artists the opportunity display their work in the Awards which are part of the Kyneton Daffodil and Arts Festival in the first week of September.

ADFAS Central Victoria

Studio Whites at 134 Mollison St Kyneton offers Art classes for adults, teens and children. For adults Art classes are held Tues & Wed 7-9pm and Sculpture classes Sat & Sun 2-4pm. Offers training in Art principles & practice and consultation and preparation for study, exhibitions and employment. Provides private tutoring in drawing, painting, working in clay, limestone sculpture and professional development workshops.

Music

Morning Music Program

As part of it Annual visiting Theatre program the Macedon Ranges Shire Council presents several quality musical entertainment events on a Friday morning at 11.30am in the Kyneton Town Hall. More information on www.macedonranges.vic.gov.au

 

Jazz Festival

Each year on the 2nd weekend in October the Macedon Ranges Jazz Festival is conducted in Kyneton. Top Jazz performers from across the nation perform at various venues about the town for 3 days. The opening night takes the form of a cabaret in the Town Hall. The event not only draws local jazz enthusiasts but jazz followers from across the State and from interstate. Kyneton Municipal Band

The Kyneton Band has existed under various names since 1894.To encourage and support present and new members music tuition, supply of instruments, and a uniform is provided free of charge. The Band plays town events such as the Daffodil and Arts Festival, Anzac Day, Australia Day and Kyneton’s Christmas Carol evening as well as in events outside the town. Kyneton Town Hall Evening Performances

Not only does the Town Hall feature a morning music program evening musical performance from prominent nationally recognised stars such as John Williamson or the Melbourne Symphonic Orchestra or a well known opera. The program for the year is available at the Shire Office in Mollison St

 

Kyneton Daffodil & Arts Festival Community Concert

Held during the first week of September, the concert conducted in the Kyneton Town Hall features well known local performers. Past performers include Donna Fisk, Marcie Jones and Athol Guy.

 

Music Tuition

Schools

Local Secondary and Primary Schools offer instrumental music tuition and involvement in bands, orchestras and choirs and performances in large annual concerts in the Town Hall.

 

Kyneton Municipal Band:

The Band provides free tuition to beginners who join the band.

Several top class productions are brought from Melbourne to be performed at the Town Hall each year.

 

Bluestone Theatre (Hutton St Kyneton)

The home of the Kyneton Theatre Company this historic theatre is used for its performances and of smaller visiting groups

Kyneton Theatre Company

The Kyneton Theatre Company present three or three major plays each year and compete on the One Act Play circuit. The Company has a youth arm: Q’Riosity Theatre which also stages plays each year. The Theatre Company meet on the 3rd Tuesday 7.30pm at the Bluestone Theatre.

Schools

Both secondary schools have a strong drama tradition and stage school productions each year as well as competing in the Youth section of the Kyneton Festival of One Act Plays.

The Kyneton Festival of One Act Plays is a three day festival now in its 52nd year which attracts Companies from across the State during the Daffodil and Arts Festival on the first weekend of September.
